As you would expect I did get out and do some birding whilst I was in the UK as well. I was very lucky to be taken out for three days in the field by Sharon and John Holian and on these days we were joined by Brian and Paul.
During the first day we went up into Derbyshire where we searched for and eventually saw a rare Dusky Thrush which had been around for a while. Later in the day we called in at Chasewater where we saw Velvet Scoter, Red-breasted Merganser and 2 Caspian Gulls including one adult and a 1st winter.
Second day highlights were a Yellow-browed Warbler, 6 Bean Geese and a European Bittern.
The Thrush theme continued on the third day when we had good views of a 1st winter Black-throated Thursh in North Wales along with 50 or so Waxwings and 3 Snow Buntings in Llandudno.
